The Maurice N. Flecker Gallery in the South Hampton building is hosting Joe Forkan’s art exhibit. The Lebowski Cycle includes Forkan’s paintings inspired by a 1998 comedy film The Big Lebowski written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The movie is about a man named Jeff Lebowski, who lives to bowl but his identity is mistaken for a millionaire named the Big Lebowski. Some of the paintings portray the character of Jeff Lebowski as well as mirror famous historical moments. Other paintings reference art history, film, and contemporary art. The art exhibit includes 16 of Forkan’s paintings but only six are shown within the art gallery.
The Lebowski Cycle will be open to the public on Thursday October 17th 2013 and will continue showing until November 12th from 10 am to 3 pm. Viewing of the art exhibit will be free of charge and catalogs will also be available to all visitors attending. A discussion will also take place on the day of the opening from 1 pm until 3 pm with the artist himself. Refreshments will be served for all those participating in the discussion.
“This art gallery holds intriguing paintings, I suggest everyone should come and see it,” said Maria Cherubino, secretary of the Art Department. She explains how any art exhibit that is hosted by the Maurice N. Flecker Gallery always has such a great turn out and encourages students to come and enjoy these wonderful paintings with friends and family.
