Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness has been broadcasted on PBS stations across the country since its debut on Sep. 21, 2011. It will be screening here on the Ammerman campus on Wednesday, Oct. 20th in the Montauk Point Room located in the Babylon Student Center.
The documentary is on the murder of Marcelo Lucero in Patchogue in 2008; and the way the community has responded. The message the film markers want to send? That it will hopefully inspire thousands of people to take action and stand up to hate in their own communities.
Steven Schrier, professor of Business Law and Political Science, as well as Executive Director of the Suffolk Center on the Holocaust, Diversity & Human Understanding, Inc stated that the film will be sixty minutes long, followed by discussion. It should run from 2-3:30PM.
Professor Schrier also extended his invitation to SCCC students to the film screening and to express their interest in the Not On Our Campus Club. The club is planning on holding a meeting soon on campus.
